Malkhaz, a farmer from a small village in Kartli Region, East Georgia, is 33 years old. He is married and lives with his wife – Ia, his 10-year-old son and 10-month-old daughter. Malkhaz works as a construction laborer in the village. Along with his main job, he is also actively involved in the family agricultural business. The family has two milk cows. Ia produces traditional Georgian cheese. Also, Malkhaz and Ia grow wheat, onions, cabbage and tomatoes on the family-owned 3-hectare plot of land. Harvested vegetables and grains, as well as home-made cheese, are sold on the local open market to retailers. Total average monthly income of the family is 900 Laris.
Malkhaz requested credit for hiring a tractor to till the land. Also part of the credit will be used for purchasing vegetable seeds. Malkhaz will sow high quality species of the vegetables and work hard during the spring season, in order to get a good harvest in summer, which will be sold for an appropriate price. The family will use received income for financing their daily needs.
