Katy
Katy, 36, is a woman full of ideas and dreams for the future. She wants to move forward in life and is very cheerful and kind to others. She lives in common law with Denis, who works in transportation, and they have three children: Diego (11), Jeyson (9) and Elda (5). They live in a house of their own that they bought with their savings.
Katy sells ceviche. She prepares it in her house and sells it on the streets, using a mototaxi (driven by her partner) that she owns and customized for her business. She goes around the city streets on a dayly basis, offering her product and treating her customers very kindly.
Katy started this business over 4 years ago, investing some savings that were put together by her and her partner and a private loan. So far, her partner has supported her preparing and selling the ceviche.
She considers her business to be profitable because everyday she gets to sell all her product and receives good profits. Before starting her business, Katy worked as a kitchen aid at a ceviche restaurant where she learned how to prepare this dish and how profitable the business is. At the time she had economic pressures, as it was hard to cover all her family expenses. Now her economic situation is better, so she wants to stay in business and open a ceviche restaurant in the future. This will be her third loan with MFP. She is very happy to learn she will receive financial support because this means she will be able to move on with her business. She also likes her Communal Bank because all the members are responsible and supportive. With the requested loan of 1000 nuevos soles, Katy will purchase the necessary ingredients for making ceviche because the prices are rising, demanding a higher investment on her behalf everyday. She will therefore seek lower prices through buying bulk amounts, which will allow her to keep her profit margin.
