El grupo "Cielo azul" will begin their second cycle of loans with Pro Mujer (part of the focal center of Juan Pablo II). The group is comprised of 8 members and is directed by a board of directors led by Mrs. Gladys. The businesses that the group members of the communal bank run are varied. Among them we have the following: Selling sweets, selling intimate apparel, selling food, selling groceries, selling books, selling jewels, and selling coffee.

Mrs. Gladys notes that she has been working with Pro Mujer for two years and that she joined the group because of the invitation of a group member. Currently she has a business selling jewels and she has been working in this area for some time.

The credit that she will get is in order to increase her capital (for buying jewelry). She will acquire the jewelry at fairs and later sell it at her stand. This form of work allows her to generate income to support her family, since she is single and has two children.

When she is asked what she likes about Pro Mujer, she responds that she likes the work of the group and to share with her fellow group members.

Additional Information

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
