Marcel Evènassè Jean, age 32, lives in Benin. He's married to a hairdresser named Hélène. He never attended school, but did learn sewing. The couple has two children, out of whom one attends school. In addition, they have another child in their care.
Marcel Evènassè Jean and his wife make sure together that the various household expenses are covered. To provide for himself, Marcel Evènassè Jean has been working as a tailor for about thirteen years. This business enables him to provide for himself and for his children's needs.
He would like to improve his sewing workshop's equipment by purchasing an embroidery machine. This will enable him to meet customer demand in an efficient way.
For this reason, Marcel Evènassè Jean is seeking a third loan from Kiva's partner, ALIDé. The first two loans were repaid without problems.
Alidé is a Beninese NGO that works to reduce poverty by offering sustainable access to productive loans like this one in addition to savings, training sessions, and social work to low-income families.
Supporters of this loan should be aware that there is some risk of being repaid late. Because the Beninois Ministry of Finance has imposed restrictions on the amount of money Alidé can send to Kiva, the organization can only send monthly repayments in installments smaller than $13,000. This means that some Kiva lenders may receive their repayments late. However, Alidé remains a healthy institution in good standing with its creditors, and Kiva would like to continue working to support its clients.
