Phân, age 46, is in the business of rice husbandry. She has been happily in this business for over 20 years because she has her husband who is supportive in the maintenance of their rice field. Currently, she has a single school-aged child attending a junior high school in Kompong Cham province.
Phân now is asking for a loan from HKL, a Kiva partner, to purchase a used motorcycle for her husband to use to provide taxi service when he is available from rice farming. Phân hopes that this loan will help improve her living standards.
Hattha Kaksekar Limited is one of the largest and most successful microfinance institutions (MFIs) in Cambodia. The organization provides microfinance services to the poor, particularly women, in urban and rural areas. Kiva lenders’ funds will be used to expand the outreach of HKL’s financial services to a greater number of clients in rural areas of Cambodia.
