Duo Santa Teresita Group
In this Group: Maria Marta , Justa
Duo Santa Teresita is made up of Marta, 36 years old, and her mother-in-law, Justa, 62 years old. During the past 15 years, Justa has worked selling tortillas at her home. Marta's has a small business selling basic daily item from her home, where she also has a nixtamal [cooked maize] mill. From six in the morning, Marta attends to her customers, mostly women who come to grind their nixtamal and, at the same time, buy bread for their children travelling to school.

She is requesting this loan for the purchase of daily consumption products because she needs a bigger supply in her store. Both women's husbands work in agriculture, planting flowers and vegetables; that's why the women support them by travelling 2 or 4 times a week to the local market of the municipality to sell their crops. They see the need to do this and the benefits for their families. This is why they need capital to invest in their businesses as well as investing some part in their husband's harvest.

About FAPE

FAPE, the Foundation for the Assistance of Small Businesses, is a nonprofit, socially-minded institution that provides loans to micro-entrepreneurs across Guatemala.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
