The group consists of twelve members and is headed by a board under the presidency of Señora Silvia. The members of this communal association have businesses in the following sectors: sale of handicraft, weaving of blankets and towels, welder's workshop and store, sale of sports articles, sale of candies, sale of MP3 and MP4 players, sale of groceries, sale and repair of cell phones, sale of perfume, sale of liquor, knitting and sale of sweaters.

Silvia says that it is the first time she works with Pro Mujer and that she was invited by a relative to join the institution. Currently she has a liquor store, which she has been running for some time.

The loan that she now applies for will be used to increase her inventory (purchase of liquor) which she will buy from her suppliers and then sell in her vending place. This kind of work enables her to earn an income and support her family, because she lives with her parents.

When we asked her what she likes about Pro Mujer, she replied that she likes the training sessions.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
