Vanna
Vanna (in the photo), age 40, sells pork. She buys pork from the Koki market, about four kilometers from her house, and resells in her local market. Her husband, Phorlly, age 38, is a policeman. They live in a village about fifteen kilometers form Phnom Penh City and have five children: three sons and two daughters. One has full-time employment, two attend school and the other two are still young.

Vanna lives with her parents. She wants to live in a separate house, so she has decided to ask for her first loan, in the amount of $1,000, to build a home.

About MAXIMA

MAXIMA Mikroheranhvatho is a Cambodian microfinance institution founded in 2000 to help low-income rural and urban people and small- to medium-sized businesses (SMEs) access financial services. Sustainable access to credit helps to create jobs and enables business owners improve their living conditions, educate their children, provide health care to their families, and more. It also enables the rural poor to remain at home with their families, rather than moving to city centers in search of employment.

About Housing Loans

Many poor families cannot afford housing that meets their needs. When you make a housing loan on Kiva, you give people access to flexible capital to obtain or improve their homes. Better housing means better health, sanitation, and even educational outcomes for children. A house can also be much more for entrepreneurs who run businesses out of their homes. In this way, housing and small business loans on Kiva share a common purpose: to alleviate poverty and enable families to enjoy more stable lives.
