Adela is a member of a group called 'La Guadalupana'. This group has ten members who are all tenacious, hard-working and kind women. Each of the women has her own business activity.

Adela is 49 years old and studied up to the third year of elementary school. She is married to Erasmo who is a manual worker. They have seven children who are all married. Adela and her husband live in a region whose main business activity is sugar production. She tells us that, some years ago, she decided to start her own business selling soft drinks and Mexican snacks (empanadas, tostadas, fried tacos and picadas) because she wanted to support her husband with their household expenses and enjoy a better quality of life. Adela tells us that she rented a small sales location next to the elementary school and this is where she sells her soft drinks and sweet treats. She also sells Mexican snacks (empanadas, tostadas, fried tacos and picadas). During recess she puts her food on a table to sell. She says that her business is doing well because the children buy their breakfast there and she is already popular with the students.

Adela needs this loan to buy corn dough, tortillas, oil, cheese, meat, soft drinks, juice, cream, disposable plates and candies. She hopes that this investment will boost her business because she would like to provide her family with a better quality of life. The group's members are grateful to Fundación Realidad for the trust that they have placed in them and the support that they have given them. The other members of the group are:
Perla - shoe sales
Elvira - livestock sales
Bernarda - grocery sales
Cruz Maria - chicken sales
Rosa Elvira - clothes sales
Rodolfa - clothes sales
Yessenia - clothes sales
Nicolasa - 'longaniza' (spicy pork sausage) sales
Maclovia - cosmetics sales

Additional Information

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
