Vincent is a resident of Litein in South Rift Kenya and has been in farming for 20 years with his main produce being milk and horticultural products. He also carries out a livestock trade to supplement his farming income.
Vincent has requested a loan of 80,000 KES from Juhudi Kilimo to buy a pedigree dairy cow. He says his years of experience in dairy farming have equipped him with skills to manage the business and he hopes he will be able to get better returns with better quality breeds.
Vincent says lack of capital remains the major challenge in farming.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
