Diaa is a 50-year-old Lebanese married woman. She lives with her husband and two children, one of whom is working, while the other is still attending school. Diaa's husband has been working at the municipality for the past four years. As for Diaa, she started to work as a tailor from her home in 2001 and already has 15 years of experience in this domain. With the cooperation of her husband, Diaa has been able to provide for her family's needs and pay her child’s school fees.
Today, Diaa wants to borrow funds from Kiva partner Ameen s.a.l. to purchase a new tailoring machine and textiles, which will allow her to increase her production and, thus, her profits. In the future, Diaa plans to open her own clothing shop.
Due to political and social challenges in Lebanon, personally identifiable attributes entrepreneurs may have been altered to protect their privacy (i.e., blurring portions of the borrower's picture, not indicating a name and location, etc.). Vitas appreciates Kiva lenders' understanding of these challenges and encourages them to continue their support for Lebanon's borrowers.
