Conjesta, age 48, is a mother of six children, four of whom are still schooling. She has been in farming for most of her adulthood and currently produces milk, maize, beans, vegetables and eggs for the local market.
Conjesta has requested a loan of 40,000 KES from Juhudi Kilimo to boost her poultry farming business. She says the expansion will improve her farming income and make it easier to provide for the family's basic needs. She also adds that she will enjoy the economies of scale with an increased number of birds. She is glad she will be able to educate her children.
She laments of the costly animal feed and difficulty in managing poultry diseases.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
