The "Los Unidos" is made up of 7 women and 2 men. They live in different parts of Cuenca city, the capital of the province of Azuay. Azuay is known as the "Athens of Ecuador"; it is the country's cultural centre, named a UNESCO World Heritage site in December 1999. The residents are kind, gentle, and maintain the traditions of their ancestors. The group members are very hard-working and strive every day to improve their household conditions and to succeed.
Señora Nelly, age 38, is one of the group members. She is in a common-law marriage and has four children ages 15, 12, 3, and 10 months. Their oldest two children are in school. Her husband works as a policeman, and they do not have their own home; they rent.
Nelly has worked as a kitchen helper for three years. She works Monday to Saturday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.
This is her first loan with this communal bank. She was invited by a colleague. She will invest this loan in the purchase of fish and shellfish to start this business.
Her goal is to have her own home.

El banco comunal Los Unidos está conformado por 7 socias y 2 socios, quienes viven en diferentes lugares de la ciudad de Cuenca, capital de la provincia del Azuay que es reconocida como la "Atenas del Ecuador", es la ciudad cultural del país siendo nombrada en Diciembre de 1999 como Patrimonio Cultural de la Humanidad. Su gente es amable gentil y mantienen las tradiciones de sus pueblos, nuestras socias son trabajadoras y muy luchadoras que diariamente se esfuerzan por mejorar la economía de sus hogares y salir en adelante.

Una de las socias de este grupo es la Señora. Nelly, tiene 38 años, vive en unión libre y fruto de su unión ha concebido 4 hijos de 15, 12 y 3 años y su último hijo es un bebé de 10 meses, sus dos primeros hijos están estudiando en el colegio. Su esposo labora como guardia, no tienen casa propia por lo que vive arrendando.

Doña Nelly labora como ayudante de cocina actividad que la desempeña hace 3 años, trabaja de lunes a sábados desde las 8 de la mañana hasta las 4 de la tarde.

Este es su primer crédito que realiza en el banco comunal al cual fue invitada por una compañera de su trabajo. Su crédito lo va a invertir compra de pascado y mariscos para iniciar con este negocio.

Su meta es tener su casa propia.
