Cristina Del Socorro
Cristina lives with her husband in Concepción. He works for a private company to help pay for the household expenses since they have to support their children. Their plan is to build a house because they have been living in Cristina’s mother’s house for some years. Cristina is a farmer and she grows pitahaya (an edible cactus fruit). This doesn’t generate enough income to be able to build the house all at once, so she went to Afodenic for help. Kiva’s programs assist people with few resources so that they can turn a dream into reality, such as beginning to construct a house on a plot located near her pitahaya field. She will use the loan to buy construction materials such as iron, cement, rafters, cement blocks, roof supports, sand, gravel, etc.

About Housing Loans

Many poor families cannot afford housing that meets their needs. When you make a housing loan on Kiva, you give people access to flexible capital to obtain or improve their homes. Better housing means better health, sanitation, and even educational outcomes for children. A house can also be much more for entrepreneurs who run businesses out of their homes. In this way, housing and small business loans on Kiva share a common purpose: to alleviate poverty and enable families to enjoy more stable lives.
