Josefina is 63 years old, married, and lives with her grandson. She prides herself in being a hard-worker who always tries to get herself ahead. She has been working with cattle since she was 17 and her mom gave her a cow as a gift. She now has ten cows which she largely takes care of alone. This is her first time taking out a loan. She would like to use the money to buy another cow which will increase her earnings and hopefully better her quality of life. In the near future, she hopes to also be able to purchase other animals such as pigs and sheep in order to further expand her business.
About FODEMI, a partner of World Vision International
FODEMI is a microenterprise development fund that supports groups of entrepreneurs who lack access to formal financial systems. The organization works with vulnerable populations, especially women, in the marginalized urban and rural sectors of Ecuador. Its clients work in a variety of sectors including agriculture, artisan crafts and the commercial and service sectors. Kiva lenders’ funds are used to expand the organization’s services to the poor living in more rural parts of Ecuador.
