A loan of $750 helped buy 15 sacks of organic fertilizer for use on his gladiola fields.

Medardo's story

Medardo, 41 years old and lives with Teodosia, with whom he has 2 children, Noemi, age 20, and Angel, age 16. They reside in their own house in the annex of Patay in Palca district. Medardo is a strong and constant man. With these same characteristics he pursues agriculture and he has been doing well in selling his production.

Medardo sows green peas twice a year -- the variety he produces can be harvested every 6 months. But he reports that it is more profitable to sell gladiola flowers. Now he has 2 parcels planted in flowers that will be ready in April. “Each time, I sow 30 sacks of white and red flower seeds, which are the most in demand,” he notes. November and May are the months with the best prices. Each packet of 12 dozen flowers brings in 80 sols. The remaining months the price falls to 60 sols. And even at this price, Medardo obtains a good income.

In this manner, he wishes to obtain more agricultural land to expand his production of peas and gladiolas. This will be his 7th loan, thanks to the help of MFP, and he promises to be punctual in making his monthly payments. Medardo belongs to the “Los Picaflores de Patay” (The Hummingbirds of Patay) communal bank. He is content to be part of such a solid enterprising group. With this loan, he will purchase 15 sacks of organic fertilizer to spread on his gladiola fields.
