Elizabeth De La Trinidad
Elizabeth is a 52 year-old woman who lives with her family in a community in Southern Costa Rica, located in Concepción de Pilas, Puntarenas province. The local economy is based on agricultural outputs, particularly tubers, coffee, corn, beans, and cattle.

Elizabeth has been growing coffee for a few months now. Coffee has long been a major crop in Costa Rica, making it one of the largest global exporters. Elizabeth needs to increase her income so that she can improve her family's quality of life and give her children the opportunity to receive a good education.

Elizabeth is requesting a loan of ₡1,000,000.00 (one million colones) to buy coffee seedlings, in order to help her achieve her goal: to increase her production of coffee, which is known as the "Golden Grain" in her country.

Elizabeth is a member of the Community Credit Company in La Danta, which is one of EDESA's 150 member organizations in Costa Rica. This will be her first loan and she hopes it will help her to continue growing on a personal and economic level. She also hopes to be an active participant in her community's credit organization.

Elizabeth es una mujer de 52 años de edad y vive con su familia en una comunidad de la zona Sur de Costa Rica, ubicada en Concepción de Pilas, en la provincia de Puntarenas. La economía local está basada en actividades agropecuarias, donde destaca la siembra de tubérculos, café, maíz, frijoles y ganadería.

Hace unos meses Elizabeth se dedica al cultivo de café, el cual tiene mucho auge en nuestro país y de este se hacen las mayores exportaciones a nivel mundial. Es por esta razón que tiene la necesidad de aumentar sus ingresos económicos, para de esta forma mejorar la calidad de vida de su familia y darle a sus hijos la oportunidad de que reciban una buena educación.

Elizabeth está solicitando un préstamo de ₡1,000,000.00 (un millón de colones), para la compra de almacigo de café, lo cual son pequeñas plantas del mismo para lograr su objetivo, e;l cual es incrementar la cantidad de producción de café, conocido como “Grano de Oro” en nuestro país.

Elizabeth es socia de la Empresa de Crédito Comunal en la Danta, una de las 150 organizaciones socias de EDESA en Costa Rica. Este será su primer préstamo y con él espera continuar creciendo a nivel personal y económico, además de participar activamente en la organización de crédito en su comunidad.

As a small and relatively young MFI located in Costa Rica, EDESA has difficulty attracting other sources of capital. Many other microfinance funders do not work in Costa Rica, because overall the country is too rich. However, organizations such as EDESA work with extremely marginalized populations in Costa Rica that really need the access to capital that EDESA provides. By funding EDESA, Kiva lenders are allowing the organization to grow and reach more people than they otherwise would be able to reach.
