Zipporah is aged forty-seven and has been in farming for six consecutive years. She is married with seven children, with the last two being in school. Her farm produces milk and poultry birds for the local market. She adds that her family relies fully on farming since she started in the farming business six years ago.
Zipporah has requested a loan of 61,200 KES from Juhudi Kilimo. She will use to loan to buy and insure a dairy cow at 31,200 KES and buy more poultry birds at 30,000 KES. She says she hopes to improve her farming income and boost her family's living standards.
Her challenge she says remains animal diseases.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
