Maricella is a single mother and head of her family, with one six-year-old child whom she has been able to advance in life thanks to her dedication to her work.
Maricella has worked for the greater part of her life selling personal care products through catalogs. However, when the father of her child stopped contributing money to the household about three years ago, she needed to search for a means of generating greater income. From that point, she set up a shoe store where she continues also to offer personal care products for sale. Her store is located in her home, which allows her to look after her child while she is working.
Maricella is well-known for the good service that she provides her customers, and for the good quality of her products. Thanks to this, she has been able to capture a very good customer base, some of whom purchase her products at wholesale. She currently has a large order on behalf of a customer which she cannot cover with her current inventory. For this reason, she must purchase the merchandise from her supplier in order to be able to meet her customer's order. As she doesn't have sufficient capital to make this purchase from her supplier, Maricella is looking for a loan that will allow her to make this purchase of footwear, in order to meet the large order that her customer has placed.
Maricella hopes that in this way her income will grow considerably, as she will be able to continue working on her business with more capital than before. She also dreams that her son might achieve a quality education and have financial stability in the future, so that he won't have to experience the difficulties that she has had to.

This loan is structured on Kiva as a bullet loan, which means a single payment is required at the end of the loan term. By Colombian law, Kiva's partner Interactuar is required to offer borrowers loans with a variable interest rate that fluctuates with the market rate. Because fixed monthly payments are applied first to interest and then to principal, Interactuar is unable to predict upfront what portion of each repayment would go towards the loan principal. This creates a challenge with Kiva's system, which doesn't allow for unpredictable principal payments, and can result in some Interactuar clients appearing falsely delinquent. To remedy this, the loan has an end-of-term repayment plan on Kiva, but the borrower will continue scheduled monthly repayments to Interactuar, who will then pass along the principal amount to Kiva lenders. This means that you may see repayments made on this loan throughout the repayment term, as opposed to receiving repayment in full at the end of the loan term.
