Chhunry, 23, is married with two dependent sons who are still too young to attend school. He and his wife live in a village in the Moung Russey and they earn a living through farming their own four-hectare rice field and raising one pig as additional income. He has been in the rice farming business for almost 10 years.
Chhunry received his first loan with VisionFund one year ago and he successfully repaid the loan. Since 2010, the loan has helped him and his family afford sufficient food to eat. He now earns around US $5 per day to feed his family. Now requesting another loan with VisionFund, he is going to use the loan to buy fertilizer for his farmland and use a portion to buy feed for his pig. He hopes to earn a larger income to improve his standard of living.
About VisionFund Cambodia
VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.
Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
