Zaliko is from the village of Ptena. He is 22 years old and lives with his parents and his 21-year-old brother. Agriculture is the only source of income for the family, and all family members are involved in it. They have 2 milk cows and sell home-made cheese at the local market. The family owns 6.5 hectares of land, where they grow potatoes, wheat and barley. Zaliko sells the harvested products to local retailers. The family's total average monthly income is 700 GEL.
Zaliko has requested a loan to purchase a mini tractor, which will provide an additional source of family income in several ways. Firstly, Zaliko will use it for seasonal work on the farm and thus save the usual tractor rental costs; secondly Zaliko and his brother will use it to provide tilling services to neighboring farmers, thereby earning additional income. The family will use the increased income to purchase additional household goods in order to improve their living conditions.
