Hernando De Jesus
Hernando has been raising cattle since he was very young. His father also did this and taught his son from an early age. Little by little, Hernando has been increasing the quantity of cattle he has on his land and thanks to his effort, he has been able to generate more income to sustain his family. The good quality and service he offers has resulted in customer satisfaction and with the passage of time, he has won over additional customers for his business.

Since Hernando now has more customer orders than he can satisfy, he is looking for ways to increase the quantity of cattle he raises on his land, and to offer his customers good sales. However, since he lacks sufficient capital to buy new cattle to raise, Hernando is seeking a loan that would offer the possibility of buying the cattle necessary to increase his productive capacity, allowing him to fill his customers' orders.

Hernando hopes in this way to increase his income and offer his wife a better quality of life. In addition, Hernando dreams of obtaining a larger parcel of land where he could employ other people who are in very vulnerable situations and have never found work opportunities.

Important Information

This loan is structured on Kiva as a bullet loan, which means a single payment is required at the end of the loan term. By Colombian law, Kiva's partner Interactuar is required to offer borrowers loans with a variable interest rate that fluctuates with the market rate. Because fixed monthly payments are applied first to interest and then to principal, Interactuar is unable to predict upfront what portion of each repayment would go towards the loan principal. This creates a challenge with Kiva's system, which doesn't allow for unpredictable principal payments, and can result in some Interactuar clients appearing falsely delinquent. To remedy this, the loan has an end-of-term repayment plan on Kiva, but the borrower will continue scheduled monthly repayments to Interactuar, who will then pass along the principal amount to Kiva lenders. This means that you may see repayments made on this loan throughout the repayment term, as opposed to receiving repayment in full at the end of the loan term.
