For more than 30 years, since the beginning of her working life, Ana has earned her living growing coffee. At the start she had to work for other people and then, with her savings, she bought land and today has her own coffee fields which she tends carefully.
With help from her husband and children and a certain amount of optimism she gets good harvests. Her goal is to improve the family’s standard of living. She takes the coffee to sell at central warehouses where they pay good prices. They have managed to buy land on which to build their house and also to look after the coffee plants. Now Ana’s greatest wish is to be able to finish the new house. This will be her fourth loan with MFP; she will be as responsible as always with the repayments. She is happy with the work of her community bank as it is made up of responsible people. With the S/. 1,000 loan she will buy construction material such as metal supports and cement.
About Housing Loans
Many poor families cannot afford housing that meets their needs. When you make a housing loan on Kiva, you give people access to flexible capital to obtain or improve their homes. Better housing means better health, sanitation, and even educational outcomes for children. A house can also be much more for entrepreneurs who run businesses out of their homes. In this way, housing and small business loans on Kiva share a common purpose: to alleviate poverty and enable families to enjoy more stable lives.
