Eugenia De Jesus
Eugenia is a person who has had to deal with many difficulties in life. However, her desire to do well has allowed her to overcome her difficulties and make progress together with her family. Seven years ago Eugenia's husband died and she was left as a single mother responsible for 5 children, most of whom still needed their mother's care. Seeing that she needed to make income for her household, Eugenia started offering a dressmaking service to third parties. She learned this trade a long time ago and used to work in it periodically. Thanks to the good quality of her products, Eugenia's work became the standard in her region and now she has very good orders from her customers. She currently has a large order to make uniforms as the beginning of the school year is approaching. For this reason, she is looking to buy the raw materials she needs such as fabric and threads. As she doesn't have enough capital to buy all the materials she needs, Eugenia hopes to receive a loan which will enable her to buy fabric and threads for making the uniforms that her customer has ordered.

Eugenia dreams of her workshop continuing to grow and being able to provide work in the future to single mothers who find themselves in the same situation as her. She also dreams of her children becoming professionals with good jobs that will allow them to get ahead in life and form their own families.

Important Information

This loan is structured on Kiva as a bullet loan, which means a single payment is required at the end of the loan term. By Colombian law, Kiva's partner Interactuar is required to offer borrowers loans with a variable interest rate that fluctuates with the market rate. Because fixed monthly payments are applied first to interest and then to principal, Interactuar is unable to predict upfront what portion of each repayment would go towards the loan principal. This creates a challenge with Kiva's system, which doesn't allow for unpredictable principal payments, and can result in some Interactuar clients appearing falsely delinquent. To remedy this, the loan has an end-of-term repayment plan on Kiva, but the borrower will continue scheduled monthly repayments to Interactuar, who will then pass along the principal amount to Kiva lenders. This means that you may see repayments made on this loan throughout the repayment term, as opposed to receiving repayment in full at the end of the loan term.
