Mrs. Chhin is a 39-year-old married woman who has been residing in Pouk district, Siem Reap province. To generate her income, Chhin is in two businesses: rice husbandry and making handmade baskets. These two businesses only provide her family with enough daily food. However, the main income is from her husband, who is in an animal-trading business. Chhin has three single children: the oldest one works as a construction worker and the other two are still students.
With the loan requested from HKL, Chhin will use it to buy a couple of cows for farming purpose. She hopes to improve her business through using a Kiva loan and anticipates having a proper house someday.
Hattha Kaksekar Limited is one of the largest and most successful microfinance institutions (MFIs) in Cambodia. The organization provides microfinance services to the poor, particularly women, in urban and rural areas. Kiva lenders’ funds will be used to expand the outreach of HKL’s financial services to a greater number of clients in rural areas of Cambodia.
