The Bokk Jom solidarity group was created on Dec. 9th 2010 and is comprised of a total of fourteen women who come from the same family and stand together—as indicated by the name they have chosen.

Coumba, the leader, is 42 years old; she is a married mother of four children. She runs a business trading rice in the town’s central market, and has had a decent experience for three years now. She is pictured standing on the right of the photo dressed in white and raising her left hand.

She stocks-up on fresh supplies at the wholesalers’ market, and then resells to her clients on-site.

Her loan would be used to purchase rice in large quantities in order to generate more profits.

She helps her husband with the family expenses, and wishes to have her own storefront so she can buy significant quantities of rice.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
