In the photo above is Abass. Abass is a primary school teacher in Makeni city, in northern Sierra Leone. The fifty-seven year old has served in the teaching profession for twenty-seven years.
A native of Pet-Banna village, in northern Sierra Leone, Abass is married, and the couple has four children: three attend primary school and one is in college.
Abass has requested this loan from SMT/Kiva lenders to pay school fees for his children.

Salone Microfinance Trust (SMT) is Kiva’s oldest field partner in Sierra Leone. SMT began operations in 2002 as a microcredit program of the NGO Child Fund Sierra Leone under a USAID program to assist the reintegration of ex combatants back into their communities.
