Gudelio farms on the oldest running farm on Staten Island, New York. He rents a small plot of land on the farm and organically grows everything from peppers and tomatoes, to onions and herbs. Though Gudelio has only been farming in the US for two years, in his home country of Mexico he farmed mangoes and papayas and sold them at the largest market in Mexico City- el mercado de abastos.
Gudelio is currently running his construction business during these winter months. He needs a loan to build his credit to eventually access larger amounts of capital, allowing him to grow his business and hire employees. Gudelio sells his vegetables at two markets in New York City but would eventually like to expand to more.
Gudelio learned about ACCION USA through a great partnership with NYC Grows New farmer development project. NYC Grows supports immigrants to develop family farms in and around New York city and works with ACCION to help farmers grow and formalize their businesses.
