Graciela
Graciela has been a person who has had to get through many adversities in her life. Nevertheless, her great charisma and her will to advance have meant that her problems have not put any stumbling blocks in her path that would keep her from overcoming these adversities. At the age of 59, Graciela is a single mother, the head of a family of two children to whom she has always wanted to offer a university education. Nevertheless, her low income has not allowed this. Because she is the one who has to generate the income for her household, she has worked very hard at a variety of activities, but at the moment she is unemployed thanks to the few opportunities that have been offered to her in life.

Graciela, with the will to generate the income that she needs to support the household expenses, wants to set up a general store in her own house, where she can sell basic goods and tend to her business, her home, and her children at the same time. Graciela has a kiosk where she wants to set up her store, but it needs some remodeling. Nevertheless, she does not have enough money now to stock the store and remodel the kiosk. This is why Graciela hopes that a loan will offer her the opportunity to be able to purchase basic goods to stock the store and to remodel the kiosk, so that she can open her general store and be able to generate the income that she needs.

Graciela dreams that with her business underway, she can generate sufficient income to support her household expenses and to offer her children dignified living conditions. In addition, Graciela dreams that with the income that her store will generate, she will be able to offer her children the opportunity to study at a university.

Important Information

This loan is structured on Kiva as a bullet loan, which means a single payment is required at the end of the loan term. By Colombian law, Kiva's partner Interactuar is required to offer borrowers loans with a variable interest rate that fluctuates with the market rate. Because fixed monthly payments are applied first to interest and then to principal, Interactuar is unable to predict upfront what portion of each repayment would go towards the loan principal. This creates a challenge with Kiva's system, which doesn't allow for unpredictable principal payments, and can result in some Interactuar clients appearing falsely delinquent. To remedy this, the loan has an end-of-term repayment plan on Kiva, but the borrower will continue scheduled monthly repayments to Interactuar, who will then pass along the principal amount to Kiva lenders. This means that you may see repayments made on this loan throughout the repayment term, as opposed to receiving repayment in full at the end of the loan term.
