Jose Octaviano
Jose Octaviano is 48 years old. He lives with his family in a community called El Upala de San Carlos, in the province of Alajuela. In Alajuela there are five national parks, a national wildlife reserve, five protected areas and various forest reserves. The Juan Santamaría Museum is also in the area, where locally prodcued artesanal products are on display. This zone is the nation's top producer of coffee and sugar cane.

For the last three years Jose Octaviano has made a living in cattle farming. He has a farm but is lacking the most important part which will cause his business to get ahead and will help to benefit the community.

At this time, Jose Octaviano is requesting a loan of 500,000 colones to buy four heifers. With this he hopes to make his business grow and improve his and his family's quality of life.

Jose Octaviano is a member of the company 'Crédito Comunal de Delirio', one of the 150 member organizations of EDESA in Costa Rica. This will be his third loan and with it he hopes to continue growing personally and economically, apart from participating actively in the MFI of his community.

Jose Octaviano es un señor de 48 años de edad, el cual vive con su familia, en una comunidad llamada el Upala de San Carlos, en la provincia de Alajuela. En Alajuela existen cinco parques nacionales, una reserva nacional de fauna silvestre, cinco zonas protectoras y varias reservas forestales. También en la provincia se ubica el Museo Juan Santamaría, el cual exhibe artesanías producidas localmente. Esta zona ocupa el primer lugar nacional en la producción de café y azúcar de caña.
Desde hace tres años que Jose Octaviano se dedica a la ganadería, ya que cuenta en estos momentos con una finca, pero le falta lo principal para que su negocio surja y para que los vecinos de su comunidad se vean beneficiados.
Actualmente Jose Octaviano está solicitando un micro crédito de ¢500.000 (quinientos mil colones) para la compra de cuatro novillas. Con esto el espera hacer crecer su negocio y mejorar tanto su calidad de vida como la de su familia.

Jose Octaviano es socio de la Empresa de Crédito Comunal de Delirio, una de las 150 organizaciones socias de EDESA en Costa Rica. Este será su tercer préstamo y con él espera continuar creciendo a nivel personal y económico además de participar activamente en la organización de crédito en su comunidad.

As a small and relatively young MFI located in Costa Rica, EDESA has difficulty attracting other sources of capital. Many other microfinance funders do not work in Costa Rica, because overall the country is too rich. However, organizations such as EDESA work with extremely marginalized populations in Costa Rica that really need the access to capital that EDESA provides. By funding EDESA, Kiva lenders are allowing the organization to grow and reach more people than they otherwise would be able to reach.
