David is 49 years old and married with four school-aged children, the firstborn being 18. He lives with his family in the Kitale area of Western Kenya where he has been practicing mixed farming for nearly 17 years. His farm produces milk, maize, and beans for the local market.
David has requested a loan of 62,400 KES from Juhudi Kilimo to buy and insure a a dairy cow. He says this will boost his dairy business and earn income he will use to educate his children. He adds that milk has always been, and will continue to be, his family's daily food supplement. He aspires to own a vehicle to make deliveries to the market as well as to offer transport services to other farmers in the area. He sees animal diseases as his major farming challenge.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
