Adele is the chairwoman of the Community Bank named “Moisson Plus”, which means “Harvest” in English. The group is composed of 24 members united in solidarity to receive Kiva loans with the goal of developing their businesses.

Adele, 43, became a micro-entrepreneur in 2009. She manages her own general store in the east of Kinshasa. She works hard with good management skills in order to realize her dream of one day opening a large store in her area. Her business brings in $40 per week. She will increase her stock of merchandise with her next loan by purchasing soaps, cans, sacks of beans and sugar, and milk and reselling them at a profit. Adele is married and the mother of five children whose ages vary between 4 and 15 years old. Four of them attend school.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
