Ivan De Jesus
Dedicated to his work and family is the best way to describe Ivan. He is a life-long hard worker who has always wanted to provide the best for his family. Ivan, 52, is married and the father of 2 sons for whom he constantly fights, inspired to move his business forward and generate more income.

Ivan sells fruit in the city’s downtown and states that he is well situated and has a fixed clientele. Nevertheless the competition is very stiff since there are many fruit stalls in the sector. Ivan has always wanted to diversify his sales so that besides selling fruit, he also sells cell phone minutes and in this way has a little bit of an advantage over competitors. With a desire to generate more income through expanding the variety of products that he offers his clients, Ivan wants to buy a freezer that will enable him to sell fruit pulp at his stall. However he does not have sufficient capital and is requesting a loan in order to buy a freezer and a supply of fruit pulp. In this way his business will be more attractive for his customers and he will increase his sales.

Ivan aspires to earn more income than he currently does, thereby improving the quality of life of his wife and sons. In addition, his sons will be able to have access to a university education and study for careers that in the future will help them have well paying jobs.

Important Information

This loan is structured on Kiva as a bullet loan, which means a single payment is required at the end of the loan term. By Colombian law, Kiva's partner Interactuar is required to offer borrowers loans with a variable interest rate that fluctuates with the market rate. Because fixed monthly payments are applied first to interest and then to principal, Interactuar is unable to predict upfront what portion of each repayment would go towards the loan principal. This creates a challenge with Kiva's system, which doesn't allow for unpredictable principal payments, and can result in some Interactuar clients appearing falsely delinquent. To remedy this, the loan has an end-of-term repayment plan on Kiva, but the borrower will continue scheduled monthly repayments to Interactuar, who will then pass along the principal amount to Kiva lenders. This means that you may see repayments made on this loan throughout the repayment term, as opposed to receiving repayment in full at the end of the loan term.
