Pictured above is Rugiatu, a small scale businesswoman in the city of Makeni, in northern Sierra Leone. Rugiatu sells medicines and packet water. She has been a businesswoman for eight years now.
The thirty-nine year old has requested for a loan of 5,000,000 SLL. With the help of this loan, she will buy more drugs/medicines to add to her pharmacy. Born in Makeni city, Rugiatu is divorced, with two children who are attending primary schools.

Salone Microfinance Trust (SMT) is Kiva’s oldest field partner in Sierra Leone. SMT began operations in 2002 as a microcredit program of the NGO Child Fund Sierra Leone under a USAID program to assist the reintegration of ex combatants back into their communities.
