Roseline is a resident farmer in Kitale. She is 34 years old and is married. She has four children between 16 and 9 years old. She has carried out farming for 15 years, with her produce of milk, maize, vegetables and beans going to the local market.
Roseline has requested a loan of 62,400 KES from Juhudi Kilimo to buy and insure a dairy cow. She says this will boost her farming income and provide milk for family consumption. She says the knowledge in dairy farming acquired with her 15 years of practice has helped her. She now appreciates the need for better breeds of cows. She reiterates that she will buy a good breed to ensure a high yield from her dairy cow. She adds the income generated will improve her family living standards.
She, however, laments of the high costs and rampant animal diseases.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
