Mrs. Srun is a 26-year-old mother of two who lives in the Prey Chor district. She is a local farmer who owns a few plots of farmland for growing rice crops two seasons of the year. She has a common-law relationship with her husband, aged 29, who is skilled in making and repairing iron tools.
Srun would like to take out a loan to purchase iron to support her husband’s business. Her husband will use the iron to make tools and other items as needed by his customers. Srun hopes that her family’s business will improve so they can improve their standard of living.
Hattha Kaksekar Limited is one of the largest and most successful microfinance institutions (MFIs) in Cambodia. The organization provides microfinance services to the poor, particularly women, in urban and rural areas. Kiva lenders’ funds will be used to expand the outreach of HKL’s financial services to a greater number of clients in rural areas of Cambodia.
