Grace is a farmer in Kitale and she has 5 solid years of experience in farming. She currently produces vegetables and onions for the local market. Grace works as a food vendor in the local market and her food is sold mainly at construction sites in the local town.
Grace has requested a loan of 31,200 KES from Juhudi Kilimo to buy and insure a dairy cow. She says this will improve her farming income and enable her to take better care of her children's basic needs, especially their education. She hopes to scale up her farming business; however, she says that farmers are facing a great challenge occasioned by animal diseases and poor infrastructure.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
About Juhudi Kilimo:
Juhudi Kilimo is a for-profit social enterprise working with small-holder farmers in Kenya to finance purchases of dairy cows, chickens, agricultural equipment, and other assets that create immediate cash flow.
