Beatriz Elena
At 55 years of age, Beatriz Elena has been obligated to cover the household duties since her husband suffered an accident. Besides this she has two children to whom she gives everything necessary, and because of this she works harder each day. And this is why Beatriz Elena, as she already knew the clothing industry, decided to open her own business, manufacturing through contract to third parties and little by little to make her own line.

Thanks to this activity, and the decision of entrepreneurship, Beatriz Elena has been able to meet the household expenses and her children have not had to see their quality of life affected very much.

Now Beatriz Elena hopes that she can expand her business, to have more dressmaking contracts with third parties, and with the profits go on expanding the manufacturing of her own line of clothing. This is why Beatriz Elena is looking for a loan that will permit her to improve her facility, making her worksite larger, and also to buy raw materials in order to complete some of the contracts that she has made with one of her clients.

Beatriz Elena hopes that with the expansion of her business, her profits increase and in this way fulfill her dream of having her own line of ready-to-wear clothing positioned in the market. In this way, her children will have a better quality of life with economic stability that permits them to afford the best education possible.

Important Information

This loan is structured on Kiva as a bullet loan, which means a single payment is required at the end of the loan term. By Colombian law, Kiva's partner Interactuar is required to offer borrowers loans with a variable interest rate that fluctuates with the market rate. Because fixed monthly payments are applied first to interest and then to principal, Interactuar is unable to predict upfront what portion of each repayment would go towards the loan principal. This creates a challenge with Kiva's system, which doesn't allow for unpredictable principal payments, and can result in some Interactuar clients appearing falsely delinquent. To remedy this, the loan has an end-of-term repayment plan on Kiva, but the borrower will continue scheduled monthly repayments to Interactuar, who will then pass along the principal amount to Kiva lenders. This means that you may see repayments made on this loan throughout the repayment term, as opposed to receiving repayment in full at the end of the loan term.
