The communal bank is named Ykua Vera, an allusion to the neighborhood where all the members live. They are in the tenth cycle with 12 members. It is a very unified, supportive, and responsible group. The members have a great entrepreneurial spirit because they are current with their payments. They have fund-raising activities to help each other in case of problems.

One of the members is Rosalina, who tells us that she works selling snacks and beverages. She says that it is going very well for her in her business because she always gets requests for snacks for occasions and events. This spreads the word and so her clientele expands. Her goal is to have a business where she can sell her snacks and beverages, and in this way offer her customers greater comfort.

She is requesting the loan to buy meat, condiments, vegetables, bread, and other supplies to make the snacks she sells. She is grateful to the foundation and to Kiva for the opportunity for the progress that they are giving her.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
