Originally from a village of the Ponhea Krek district of Cambodia, Saleang is a 40 year-old mother of two children. One of the children is dependent on her and is still in school. She is a rice farmer of a half hectare of farmland and also plants cassava on 1.5 hectare farmland as her main of income. She has been in this business for almost ten years. In addition, she also makes baskets for sale to better feed her family. With her current business, she earns more than US$5 per day to feed her family.
Saleang is the first cycled client with VisionFund now. Now requesting a loan with VisionFund, she will use this entire loan to buy a plot of farmland for her business. This loan will enable her to have another plot of farmland for rice farming. She hopes to increase her business and improve her lifestyle.
About VisionFund Cambodia
VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.
Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
