Grown up in a village of the Thmor Koul district of Cambodia, Chamroeun is now 48 years old and married. She is a rice farmer who has been farming her own land as a primary business for five years. Duck raising is another source of income. Chamroeun has six sons who are still dependent on her and they works at the family’s farmland and raise ducks to help support the family. With her current business, she earns more than five U.S. dollars per day.

This is Chamroeun’s group first loan with VisionFund and there are two members in the group. As the leader, she plans to use this loan to buy fertilizer for her farmland to grow dry season rice. She hopes to make more healthy rice to improve her living.

VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.

Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
