Erick is a farmer in Nkubu and has been active in farming for five years. He currently sells produce of bananas, maize, cabbages, and milk to the local market. He operates a motorcycle transport besides farming. He is married with two children.
Erick has requested a loan of 40,000 KES from Juhudi Kilimo to buy dairy goats. He had previously acquired loans of 20,000 KES and 50,000 KES which he repaid promptly. He says he will keep the goats for milk, as well as resell them for family upkeep. He is focusing on expanding his transport business as well.
He says the high cost of inputs remains a major challenge.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
