David is a resident of Murang'a in Central Kenya and is aged 60 and married with 3 adult children. He has been in farming for 20 years and currently produces coffee and bananas for the local market. He works as a blacksmith besides farming.
David has requested a loan of 41,600 KES from Juhudi Kilimo to buy and insure a dairy cow. He says this will provide him with milk for daily family need and income to meet other supplementary family needs. He adds the venture into dairy farming will provide him with ready cash to carry out expansion of his farming business regularly and make his blacksmith business better.
David says the costs of feeds has been the greatest challenge to farmers.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
