Sarah lives in Poblacion Clarin, Misamis Occidental. She is 39 years old, married and has three school-age children. For the last five years, she has earned a living by selling fish in her town's public market. She earns about PHO 3,800 a month, which is her family's main source of income. She recently joined GDMPC and is applying for a loan for 10,000 PHP to buy more fish to sell and to enlarge her shop. She will use the additional income she earns to make her business more profitable, pay for the education of her children and meet daily expenses.
Gata Daku Multi-Purpose Cooperative (GDMPC) was founded in 1992 by 32 farmer-members to empower people by providing livelihood opportunities and other support services. Today, it has over 15,000 members located in upland, lowland and coastal regions of the Philippines, and offers credit, savings, education, and various social services.
