James is a farmer aged 35. He is married with four children aged between 15 and 4 years. He has been in farming for four years and currently produces tea which he sells to the local market.
James has requested a loan of 41,600 KES from Juhudi Kilimo to buy and insure a dairy cow. He wants to venture into dairy farming to compliment the profits he makes from tea which take a long time to materialise. He adds dairy income will enable him meet his family's daily needs and educate the children.
James says he is aware of the challenges of dairy farming like rampant diseases and fluctuation in milk prices but hopes to surmount them. He is glad Juhudi Kilimo enables farmers to acquire assets like dairy cows.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
