Twenty women from the city of Caacupé have joined together. They have the desire to succeed so that they can help their families. These women are hard workers and self-sacrificing individuals who view this program with Fundación Paraguaya as a great opportunity that will help them press forward.

The president, Sra. Juana, lives with her husband. She is an artisan who works with “ñanduti” (a traditional lace produced in Paraguay). Juana produces dance skirts that are of great quality and then sells them. She also decorates sandals with details made of “ñanduti”. Juana and her fellow group members engage in constant activities in order to strengthen their friendship and accomplish their goals.

Juana is requesting a loan to buy thread, dyes, needles, and other necessary supplies for making “ñanduti”. This will help her continue production.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
