The “FLOR DE PAPA” community bank are starting their second loan cycle with Pro Mujer, as part of the Villa Exaltación regional office. The group has seven members and is run by a board of directors. The bank's secretary is Verónica. The businesses that the members of the bank are engaged in are varied and include services, farming, production and selling crops.

Verónica tells us that this is the first time she has belonged to Pro Mujer. She joined through an invitation from a loan officer who came to her house. She currently has a farming business which she has been working in for years. She learned the business from her parents.

The loan that Verónica is taking out will be used to grow her business. She will buy seeds in La Ceja and, when they have grown, she will sell her crops to order. This work allows her to make the income she needs to support her family. She lives together with her partner and has one child.

When we asked her what she likes about Pro Mujer, Verónica replied that she likes the loans.

Additional Information

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
