Elshad, a 52-year-old married father of two grown sons, is from Sabirabad. With ten years of experience in selling electronic supplies and satellites, he is requesting a loan of 1500 AZN from Kiva partner Aqroinvest CU to purchase more equipment for his business including satellite receivers, mixers, refrigerators, etc. With his increased revenue, Elshad plans to expand the variety of electrical items his shop sells in the future.
Aqroinvest Credit Union was founded by a group of 32 Imishli farmers in 2001, and has grown to become one of the largest credit unions in Azerbaijan. It boasts a portfolio of nearly $5 million and is wholly owned by its more than 3,500 borrowers, as of December 2011.
