This communal bank is called “Proyectándonos” and is made up of 17 entrepreneurs who run different businesses among which are: clothes making, fast food preparation, and others. They all belong to the city of Puerto Montt.

Juan Carlos is the president of the bank and appears in the photo at the end of the group, the third person from right to left, wearing a red jacket and short hair. He has sold used clothes for the last 3 years and for the last year has been in a fixed locale for which he has the requisite permits and licenses. He is also involved in gastronomy as by profession Juan Carlos is a chef. He has premises where he offers banqueting services through which he promotes the local food of the area. He buys his merchandise at importers in the city of Santiago.

With the loan he will buy clothes to stock his business. The rest of the money he will save so as to attain one of his goals, which is to start a local food chain.

Juan Carlos will get married in February 2012 and he says that he is very happy.

He is very grateful for the opportunity given him by Fondo Esperanza as it will allow him to invest in his business. His communal bank group is committed and responsive to each of the businesses.

Puerto Montt is a city in southern Chile, located in the region of Los Lagos. One of the attractions of Puerto Montt is its beautiful green landscapes, its unfrequented beaches, cuisine and especially its reputation for seafood and handicrafts. It is also the gateway to the Isla Grande de Chiloe, rich in traditions and legends.

Este Banco comunal se llama “Proyectándonos” está conformado por 17 emprendedores, quienes se dedican a diferentes rubros entre los cuales se encuentran confección de ropa, preparación de comida rápida, preparación de comida típica, entre otros. Todos ellos pertenecientes a la ciudad de Puerto Montt.
Juan Carlos presidente del Banco comunal, quien en la foto se encuentra al final del grupo, ocupando el tercer lugar de derecha a izquierda, viste una chaqueta color rojo y usa su cabello corto.
Se dedica a la venta de ropa usada desde hace 3 años y desde hace un año, trabaja de manera estable en un local, ahí cuenta con permiso y patente.
Además se dedica al rubro de la gastronomía, ya que Juan Carlos es Chef de profesión. Cuenta con un local, donde presta servicios de banquetería, a través del cual fomenta la comida típica de la zona.
Su mercadería la compra en importadoras en la ciudad de Santiago.
Con el crédito comprará ropa para surtir su negocio. El resto del dinero lo ahorrará para cumplir una de sus metas. La cual es habilitar una cadena de locales de gastronomía.
Juan Carlos contraerá matrimonio durante el mes de febrero del año 2012, comenta que se siente muy contento.
El está muy agradecido de la oportunidad brindada por Fondo Esperanza, ya que le permitirá invertir en su negocio.
El grupo del Banco comunal es muy comprometido y responsable con cada uno de sus negocios.
Puerto Montt es una ciudad del sur de Chile, ubicada en la región de Los Lagos. Una de las atracciones de Puerto Montt son sus bellos paisajes verdes; sus playas poco frecuentadas; su gastronomía y especialmente la reputación de sus pescados y mariscos y sus artesanías. Es también la puerta de entrada a la Isla Grande de Chiloé, rica en tradiciones y leyendas.

About Fondo Esperanza

Fondo Esperanza (FE) is a private non-profit organization that supports entrepreneurship by providing micro-credit and training to people living in poverty in well over 100 cities throughout Chile. By providing these services, FE aims to improve the living conditions of the entrepreneurs and their families. In 2010, FE provided loans to more than 41,000 entrepreneurs. It utilizes a communal banking model in which groups of 18 to 25 clients meet on regularly and guarantee each other’s loans. The members use their portion of the loan to create or expand their own businesses. In the group meetings, clients receive training though the FE Entrepreneurship School, which enhances clients’ personal and business skills and ability to work in groups.

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.
