The tagline for Terrizene's accounting service is, "It's in the relationship." Terrizene has a degree in accounting from Dillard University and has been doing accounting work for over 30 years. The relationship she establishes with her clients is very important to her because Terrizene is passionate about helping New Orleans' small businesses and non-profits succeed.
Terrizene is now in the process of transitioning her home-based accounting practice to a commercial space. She plans to use her Kiva loan to lease office space and to buy furniture, fixtures, and equipment. Between January and May, Terrizene is busy with tax season, and from May to December she assists non-profits with audit preparation, accounting systems set-up, policies and procedures, and prepares budgets for grant applications. Her clients have included: museums, public advocacy groups, outdoor education providers, and charter schools.
Terrizene has lived in New Orleans her entire life except for a short period of time immediately after Hurricane Katrina, when she lived in Baton Rouge. Even in Baton Rouge, under very difficult circumstances, Terri continued to provide her accounting expertise to New Orleans' charter schools. She and the founder and principal of one of those schools did all of the school administration, continuing payroll and helping to create a makeshift school for displaced New Orleans school children. As life returns to normal in New Orleans, Terrizene grows more passionate about helping non-profits and small businesses by providing them with her expert accounting services.
Terrizene is excited about spending the holiday season with her son and daughter, and her two young grandsons.
About ASI Federal Credit Union
ASI Federal Credit Union has been experiencing an increased rate of defaults. This is possibly related to the experimental nature of the loan products the organization provides. In order to serve asset-poor communities in New Orleans -- including many still recovering from Hurricane Katrina and the BP Oil Spill -- ASI offers loan products designed to help people start and grow businesses even if they don't have extensive collateral, credit histories, or business experience. For these reasons, these loans also carry a higher level of risk than typical loans on Kiva.
